Tribal Self-Advocacy
CIEA provides support for Tribal leadership and Tribal staff to self-advocate for the benefit of their own People in keeping with principles of Tribal self-determination. This support includes providing, capacity-building, strategic planning, trainings and outreach in partnership with California Tribes with Tribal members and Tribal leadership guiding our programs and projects.

Climate Planning and Capacity-building
CIEA is supporting North Coast Tribes through Climate progrrams being initiated in the first quarter of 2025 in partnership with the Salmon Restoration Federation and the North Coast Resource Partnership. for more information contact sherri@cieaweb.org or joels@cieaweb.org. The Northern CA Tribal Climate Portal
The Northern California Tribal Climate Collaborative (NCTCC) Portal contains a comprehensive collection of available tools and resources to support Tribes in the completion of climate vulnerability assessments and the development of actionable climate resiliency plans.
Salmon Reorienting to Recovery
Collaboration of Tribes, NGOs and agencies to evaluate solutions and modeling to reach salmon resiliency from the Sacramento River headwaters through the San Francisco Bay. Phase II is in review and there are funds available for Tribes in the region to pay staff or consultants to support that reivew. For more information contact Michelle Rivera micheller.ciea@gmail.com
Tribal Beneficial Uses
CIEA supports Tribes in their efforts to update Basin Plan Amendments by designating waterbodies with Tribal Cultural Uses and Tribal Subsistence Uses. The TBU Strategic Planning Caucus meets monthly online to discuss best practices and support each other’s work. All Tribes in the state of California are welcome. Funds are availalbe for those Tribes who wish to prepare and attend State and Regional Board metings on behalf of thier own community. Bioaccumulation Monitoring
The State Water Resources Control Board and CIEA collaborated with Big Valley Rancheria to co-host the Bioaccumulation Monitoring Program Training Series to support California Native American Tribes in developing programs in the areas of bioaccumulation monitoring, data analysis, and data use processes, and enable Tribes and other bioaccumulation monitoring groups to adopt those processes into their workflows and more easily partner with their regional Boards the Bioaccumulation Program and the Safe to Eat Workgroup.
